Course Overview

This two-day program is designed for people that are required to be able to certify operators of forklift trucks or other material handling related equipment within their own facility. It provides the person with the necessary tools to guide them in meeting the applicable legislation and standards including an overview of instructional techniques, adult learning methods, use of training aids, etc. Additional mentoring (more practical and presentation time) available as a three-day program.

Course Content
Day One:
  • Introduction and importance of training
  • Legislation, standards/guidelines:
    • Ministry of Labour guidelines
    • OHSA and Regulation 851
    • Due Diligence Bill C-45 update
    • Engineering principles of design (stability)
  • Adult teaching techniques
    • Training aids (how/when to use)
    • Effective communication techniques
    • The art of asking questions
  • Pre-operating inspections
  • Safe operating procedures
  • Pedestrian safety
  • Propane exchange/battery care/maintenance (theory)
  • Trailer loading/unloading & dock safety
  • Operators theory test
  • Prep for practical presentation on Day Two
Day Two
  • Legislation, standards/guidelines:
    • New C.S.A. standard B335-15
    • Forklift classes and design components
  • Use of operator manuals/tests
  • Observe practical testing with instructor
  • Propane exchange/battery care/maintenance (practical)
  • Crown's 11-Step Demonstrated Performance program process
  • Final theory presentations
